WWTP Luže (CZ) – reduction of blower noise

We were approached by our long-term business partner for help in solving problems with excessive noise emitted by the air distribution pipes, and hence the blowers, at the newly reconstructed Luže WWTP.

The increased noise level, which reached up to 83 dB in the WWTP area where the staff is located, was repeatedly the subject of complaints.

The main cause of these high values ​​is insufficient pulsation damping in the discharge silencers of the units, as well as the low efficiency of the noise-proof covers of the blowers, which come from another manufacturer.

After examining the situation at the WWTP, we proposed the use of DN125 KUBICEK pipe silencer, in an all-stainless steel design, each with an effective length of 1200 mm.

Thanks to their design and correct dimensioning, the transmission of vibrations and pulsations in the pipe distribution was reduced and, above all, the overall noise load in the space outside the engine room was reduced by more than 40 dB!!!

To reduce the noise emitted outside the blower room through the ventilation ducts, we also custom-made and delivered stainless steel damping labyrinths.

In terms of design, these are absorption silencers, where the internal structure of the silencing insert prevents degradation and “loss” of material, thus ensuring unlimited service life and efficiency across the entire spectrum of blower power regulation.

The silencers were installed directly into the pipeline, as close as possible to the blowers. The connection was made using flexible couplings with metal casing.

This project is further confirmation that when selecting blowers, it is necessary to take into account not only operating parameters, but also high-quality design solutions for silencing elements – silencers and acoustic covers.

Operation at the WWTP Luže is now significantly quieter, safer, and more comfortable for both operators and the surrounding area.
